hnssearch - search engine for handshake domains

Hey guys,

I am working on a search engine (hnssearch/) for handshake domains that is hosted on a handshake domain and was wondering what features you would like to see.

I created a suggestion board where you can place your ideas and vote for existing ones:

https://hnssearch.hearken.io/

I am trying to go with a minimalist style to create an elegant search engine.

Awesome to see more being built on Handshake!

I’m liking the minimalist style. Looking at your feature request on https://hnssearch.hearken.io/

I’ll also comment on your feature request tool, as well as in this reply

I can see one I would say are NOT important

“I’m feeling lucky” - that was removed from Google search, no? I personally never use that on Google not sure if others do?

This one I like a lot:

Integrated resolver for HNS domains - https://hnssearch.hearken.io/suggestions/IPjynr - so this means if someone uses your hnssearch tool on DNS (via hnssearch.hns.to for example) and then does a search, the results could be opened in DNS via your built in HNS resolver?) - if so, that is awesome and will be a gateway for sure.

Interesting one about how many SLDs are on a TLD. Curious the logic / use case of that? For people on the internet to see how popular a TLD is? To find sites on a TLD?
Which makes me wonder - could I, as a user (searcher on your site) only search for content on a TLD or even SLD level? I guess this could be done with something like an advanced search operator that google doc (“inurl” for example) - very interesting.
Maybe could also be used for selling SLDs (as many TLD owners now are anxious to promote and sell SLDs)

I dont want to overwhelm you with ideas - search is of course a very massive market and something that is very much needed in the HNS ecosystem

Wish you the best and if you can keep us updated in the forum so we can support as best we can.

Question - how are you funding this project ? How big is your team? Are you looking for investment?

Wow !! Great !!

For now work on indexing as many sites as possible and
open a form so that new sites can be entered in it manually by site creators !(Which will be useful if it’s there from the start and Will be helpful in case the site is not indexed yet)

All the best !!

Thank you for your suggestion. I am actually working on a page where site creators can report their site if it is missing from the search. It will be available at launch. I do think that is a very important feature :)

Like this hopefully we will manage to cover the whole network or close to it.

Awesome. Thank you very much for your thorough feedback and for taking the time to fill out the suggestion board.

I agree with the “I’m feeling lucky” search. It still is available on Google but honestly, I never used it. Just put it on the board because it came to my mind.

Yes the idea would be to host my own resolver on the website to not be dependent on hns.to and therefore to offer users that come to the site over DNS the possibility to open the links without the need for a resolver.

I am thinking of offering a new search tab, like Images or just with advanced search options. This would also go hand in hand with the suggestion “Integration of search operators”. It would be a way to see which SLD’s are taken but of course in return also which ones are free.

Absolutely not. I am truly looking for feedback from the community and willing to implement desired functions. I also believe that further development is needed in the HNS ecosystem and I am happy to provide what I can.

I will for sure post regular updates here and continue to work according to the suggestion board, even when the site is live.

So far funding is done through my mining proceeds and the coins I make by buying and reselling domains on Namebase. So far, it’s just me. 😊

I am really interested to see how far this project can go and think that for now my goal really is to get the site live and then to be able to collect more feedback and build on that.

wow, so inspiring to read this! and self funding, bootstrapping it with the proceeds from ecosystem itself!

keep it up!

I think my main feedback is - many of us make products that get too complex and bloated. I love the minimalist design of it.

When you're ready to test or promote it - please don't hesitate :)

Thank you so much :) :)

I will for sure post updates here. Now I am just tweaking the crawler. I do believe there is a thin line between adding enough features and overcrowding a service. For now I really want to get the core of the website (search and indexing) right. :)

quick update

The site is now in open beta:

http://beta.hnssearch/

So if you are interested in checking it out and testing it, I would really appreciate your feedback :D

Of course still working on some features and fixing some bugs :)

HNS.to is a highly insecure way of browsing Handshake domains and should only be used for demo or educational purposes. Click to see preferable resolutions methods
